The Chair’s Newsletter Vol. 1 No. 5
Week of September 28 - October 7, 2024
Herb Rubenstein, Chair
This past week we had 15 people attend our first in a very, very long time Young Dems event here in Lexington at the great restaurant, Heliotrope. We will be looking to hold a quarterly event for Young Dems going forward to keep the energy going created in our Young Dems population regarding this election. Thanks to everyone who showed up and to the owners and manager of Heliotrope who put on this event.
We completed our second Volunteer Office Staff training, have been canvassing almost daily, have reorganized the physical space at headquarters, and attended an event where Ken Mitchell spoke at the home of Michelle and Joe Watkins and Shannon Taylor had a fundraiser for her candidacy for Attorney General of Virginia in 2025.
In addition, we held a Voter Registration and Get Out The Vote event at Richardson Park, with Ice Cream on Saturday afternoon from 3-5p. This is part of the sprint to election day where we are promoting early voting, having people to register to vote through October 15th, and working hard for Ken Mitchell, Tim Kaine and our great Harris-Walz ticket.
We are also in the initial planning for our Buena Vista Membership and Get Out the Vote Drive. We have identified 50 people in BV who we know are either Dems or lean Dems. We are looking for more names of people you may know in BV we can invite to LexRockBV Dems open meetings in BV now planned for mid-October. I look forward to hearing the names of people you think might be voting Democratic who live in or near Buena Vista.
While I wanted to keep this Chair’s Newsletter short, I did want to add something I developed that says a lot about who we LexRockBV Dems are. You will see characteristics of yourself below. In addition, these “words” also describe the type of people who have helped us grow from 25 members in January of this year to over 125 members today, plus an additional 20 members to be voted into membership on October 14th.
Please put on your calendar our next public meeting October 14th at 6pm at the First Baptist Church at 6pm, 103 North Main Street, refreshments served! Here are the words I wanted to share with you to conclude this Chair’s Newsletter.
